Film photos from my 2024 July trip to the fabulous Faroe Islands with a stop in Iceland. My third trip to Iceland and first to the Faroe Islands, an 18 island archipelago with its own parliament, within the Kingdom of Denmark.
The Faroe Islands, (Føroyar),which translates to “Sheep Islands”, have more sheep than people. There are 70,000 sheep and only 55,000 people.
The islands are almost all connected with a series of long tunnels under the mountains or the sea. Very easy to drive around the islands and fjord, very few tourists, as opposed to Iceland which was pretty unspoiled when I first went on a horse tour in 1998 and is now mobbed with people-for good reason as it is very easy to get to and one of the most incredible places that I’ve ever seen.
All photos were shot on film cameras, with Kodak and Fuji film. I shot with a 1060’s rolleiflex, a 1960’s Widelux, a Yashica T-4 point and shoot film camera that is stuck on a date from the 1990s) and a Holga plastic camera.
