The Hudson Valley wedding of Lizzie and Josh at the fantastic Basilica Hudson in Hudson, NY, a solar powered art space in a reclaimed 19th century brick factory, was one for the books. Having photographed their engagement session and their rehearsal dinner at Lasting Joy Brewery also in the Hudson Valley, I already knew their people, their energy, and the kind of love that surrounds them. The way they show up for their family and friends—and the way that love is returned tenfold—is impossible to miss. You can’t help but smile when you’re around them and think, these guys are forever.
Lizzie was so stunning in her Amsale lace (or is it brocade?) gown and has the most beautiful skin I’ve ever seen. She takes after her mother, who is gorgeous (so is Josh’s!) and Josh was so dapper and handsome in his tux. The way they look at each other is straight out of a fairy tale. I thought Jennifer Victoria Beauty did such a beautiful, natural job on her hair and I really want to talk about the makeup woman and her clean, fresh makeup, Marsha, who is a family friend with, alas, no instagram or website.
I’m a big fan of bright, delicious color so I was in heaven with all the floral dresses, the lavender and purple floral palette (Athabold in Germantown, NY!) and colorful outfits and completely in love with super stylish grandmother in bright pink. Shout out to the other grandparents, too. The grandmothers in black were so chic and beautiful and it was such a pleasure to see so many grandparents enjoying themselves and holding hands. And how about that disco ball dance floor light-fest created by the incomparable Jeanne and her team at HV Ceremonies?
Full disclosure, I hate writing blog posts about the weddings that I photograph. Nothing I say does justice to the incredible couples I meet and the people I have the honor of spending the day with. Every wedding is its own little universe—built on inside jokes, shared history, and moments that only make sense to the people living them. Trying to summarize that into a handful of paragraphs can feel impossible. And honestly? A little unfair.
What I walked away with at the end of this night wasn’t a checklist of the timeline—it was a feeling. A feeling of joy, of fun, of kindness, of deep, true love. A feeling that I was lucky enough to witness, and even luckier to capture. Listening to their family and friends speak at both the rehearsal dinner and the wedding gave me a real sense of who Lizzie and Josh are—how deeply they care for others, how perfectly matched they are, and just how loved and in love they truly are.
So instead of trying to say everything, I’ll say this: this wedding was honest, joyful, and deeply personal. It was a reminder of why I do this work in the first place, and why—even when I swear I hate writing these posts—I keep writing them anyway.
